Day 9 – Autobiography

TODAY’S NUDGE: Share something you’ve created that feels like it’s a part of your autobiography.

For some years now, I have been working on my family tree.  It’s an on again, off again project because I tend to get so frustrated.  Shaking the tree for the nuts to fall out, so that I can make rhyme or reason out of all of it can drive me….well….NUTS!

Most of my family records it seems is over seas.  Much of it in Poland, some probably in Ukraine.  I’ve been told the Ukraine records if they still exist would be most likely difficult to access.  I’ve tried contacting some Polish parishes years ago for information, but I never heard back from any.  My aunt tried and they immediately asked for a donation.  I think she sent something, if I recall, and then never got anything.

I’ve pieced together some of my paternal line on my great-grandparents.  I actually have baptismal certificates in Latin that show additional names.  I had it figured out once, but I can’t find my notes anymore as to the who’s who.  So when I have the patience, I will have to do it again.  But I believe it tells my great x4 on one and x3 on another.  Which if I am understanding it right is pretty darn cool!

I would really like to get my DNA done to see what all it shows.  But it hasn’t been in the budget, at least not yet.  Hopefully one day I can do it.  I’m really curious to find out what all I really am in my heritage.

I would like to do all this and leave this legacy for my girls and for any children they may have.  I know once upon a time they were curious, maybe they still are or maybe they will be.  Either way, it’s something I want to leave them with someday.

As for creating, I created scrapbooks.  One for my mother’s side, one for my father’s. Back when I made them, I was a consultant with Creative Memories so I was able to feed my habit.  I just never got around to finishing the pages I was making regarding my step-grandfather. (adds to the “to-do” list.)

How are you creating your autobiography?
