Still Here

I did it again, didn’t I? Been another hot minute or a few since I last posted.

But then, we are in the midst of a pandemic.
And I’m still trying to wrap my brain around this whole thing.

Social distancing or whatever catchy term you want to give it.
Businesses being deemed essential or nonessential.
Having to wear a mask in public if you have to go out for essentials.
TP being one of the most difficult items to find.
It’s all just very dystopian or alternate reality like.

I’ve had two friends that I know of contract and recover from the virus.
So far, I know of two friends who have lost a loved one to the virus.

I have also lost a cousin to the virus.
He was only 55.
Yes he had health issues.
Diabetes for one.  And he was recovering from a second stroke.
Living in a care facility.  Where some time shortly after his birthday, he
contracted the virus.  He succumbed to it on the 5th anniversary of his
father’s death, and one day before the 39th anniversary of our grandmother’s.

He was only 5 years older than me.
He was one of my favorite cousins, even if we weren’t raised to be close.
I haven’t seen him in probably 20 years, due to us living on separate ends of
the country.
My favorite memory of him will always be the time(s) he tried to teach me
to play the opening chords to “Smoke On The Water” when I was about 4 or 5 years old.
He loved music.  When ever you saw him, he always seemed so happy.

So when I hear people saying shit like: “I want a haircut” or “I don’t wanna wear a mask
or stay home” or  “This is all a hoax”   I just want to scream!  Well I want to knock them up side the head too, but that’s frowned upon.  All these states and such, rushing to reopen.  Scares the crap out of me!!!  We’ll end up repeating history because nobody
wants to listen.

As for me and mine here, we’re going to keep distancing. Wearing masks when we have to go in somewhere.  And mostly just staying home.

Hope you are all staying safe and well in these uncertain times.
