First Sunday

It’s a warm sunny Sunday.
Supposed to get to the 90s today. YUCK!
And it’s a bit smoky again today. The sky looks
dirty, is the best way to describe it. I want to take
a rag and some windex to the sky and clean it up.
By the end of the coming week we should be back
to “False Fall” temps of the upper 70s.

Today my heart hurts for a dear one celebrating a
milestone birthday, but it’s her first one without her mom.
She lost her Mom to Covid last year around Thanksgiving.
It’s been really hard on her. I just want to hug her.

I spent the last couple of hours making out a fabric and
notions list of things I will need. I had to look up some
of the suggested fabrics because I didn’t know what they were.

With Fall and Winter coming, I want to make a couple or a few
in flannel and/or corduroy. I have several options of the latter
already. But I did find a lovely plum wine colored one at the
store.
I’m trying not to get too overly excited about all of it. Because
life has a way of throwing curve balls. And I don’t even have
my own machine yet.

Part of me keeps thinking it’s a fool’s task because I could
probably find stuff cheaper at a thrift store. But I would still
have the same struggles of find my size and style.
The other part of me thinks of how creative and fun this could
be, and a nice middle finger to my mom who refused to teach
me to sew on a machine…or at all really. But she is a blog post
for another day.

I struggle with the how much is going to cost versus but “I made this!”
I look at a few of my FB friends who are making their own stuff and
see how excited and proud they are. Another plus is the uniqueness of
the outfits.

For every argument I can make to talk myself out of it, I have another
one to talk myself back into it.

Well whatever happens, it all waits until I have everything I need, including
a sewing machine.

I have a machine but haven’t made anything for ages – after reading your blog, I’m feeling inspired to get back to it.

i hope you get that machine and whiz through all the pieces you are dreaming about. until then, hands can be slow, but they can also be meditative.

I have a few baby pillows to catch up on. I have 3 I need to make, and there’s another on the way. I usually wait until I know if it’s a boy or girl, or if I know there is a nursery theme. It’s just a simple thing, 2 fat quarters and fiber fill. I hand sew these. It feels like I am doing something special for the littles. Maybe some day, I’ll adventure into crocheting a blanket or two. But even there my list of projects is extensive lol and growing.
